Mexico City, Fiona and Chente’s Wedding

Finally we are to the main event, the wedding that we travelled to mexico for.  We know fiona from our UBC days.  She was on the sister floor to my floor during my first year at university, way back in 2000.  i got to know her, and on one of the trips that noa came to visit me, she got to know fiona also, and they became friends.  anyways, fast forward and I get invited to the wedding because those two are best friends now!  We finally got to meet Chente for the first time on a trip to vancouver last year.

the wedding ceremony and reception were in this beautiful building that used to be a house, and the top floor was converted to a solarium.  there were huge windows along one whole wall.  the ceremony was soon after we arrived, and after food and drinks started circling.

i don’t like to get in the way of the official photographers, so i was just clicking away from the corner, using high ISO so as not to use my flash.

Mexico City, Xochimilco

What can i say about Xochimilco!  its the historic part of mexico city where the original canals still exist that used to be the main way to get around the city.  nowadays its a party place, where families go on the weekend to sit on a boat, eat, drink and be merry.  Now I had heard a lot about this before we got there, but none of it was close to what the actual place turned out to be like.  i think you need to see some pictures to really believe it.

the assault of colours, and so many boats!  we quickly ordered some drinks, which are a local specialty.  we each got a 750ml bottle of corona, with a big cup filled with hot sauce and sweet stuff.  crazy!

Mexico City, visiting the Teotihuacan pyramids

Another day trip before the wedding was to Our Lady of Guadalupe and Teotihuacan, the great pyramids north of mexico city.  But to start the trip, we visited some ruins in the city first.  this place was called the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, or place of three cultures.  this was because there were the ancient temples, the newer churches, and then the modern building around it.

as you can tell, the church looks just like the pyramid brick wise.  thats because when the spanish came, they tore down all the pyramids they could, and used the stones to build their own buildings.  what stands now of the ruins are re-constructions using stones that were littered all about.
