Have tea, will travel

After a restless nights sleep in a aurplane chair, Noa and I are now awaiting her parents at a secret location somewhere in new jersey.

As we travel with tea, I found us a Starbucks for hot water, ad we are now sitting outside in the warm sun having a civilized cup of tea.

Heading to new york

[flickr id=”7373851194″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”true” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]

I’m currently sitting in salt lake city, waiting for a red eye to new york.  Noa and I are going to meet up with her family there, and we are all celebrating noa’s birthday while there. I’ll be returning home next week late on Tuesday.

I don’t know if I’ll be blogging much while I’m there, but I’ll certainly get photos posted when I return to Vancouver.

The photo is of the great salt lake as we were landing.

Naomi’s Birthday Party ’12

Last weekend we were invited to erik and naomi’s boat for naomi’s birthday. they pulled into false creek, and friends tom and mel brought their power boat over tie up next to them in order to have more space. as we walked up to the boat in false creek, this is the view of what it looked like.

this blog post is going to be a doozie, so beware.

Erik came to pick us up in the zodiac, and we zipped on over to the boat. tom and mel’ boat has a little platform that i forget the name of, but its so much easier to get on and off of their boat, which was appreciated. you don’t have to clamber up the side of the Nicholas Allen.

here is the view of monk’s that they have on the boat.

Erik was cooking up some food on the outdoor barbecue.

and this is the view looking forward. my favourite features are the hanging bike and kayak.

if you notice in the picture above, the rigging going up the mast? now scroll back to the top image, and see the little crows nest about 2/3 of the way up? Well i decided it would be fun to try to get a picture of the boat from up there. so up i clambered, and the following pictures are from while i was up there.

yours truly from the crows nest. its hard to get perspective when you’re hanging on for dear life and still get yourself and some city in the background.

a calm evening on the water. it had been windier earlier in the day, but everything settled down nicely at dawn

[flickr id=”7158549763″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]

so then somehow its decided that the survival suits should be tested! these suits are basically a pull over suit, that when worn, totally protect you from the water and elements, and only you’re face is exposed. they are for emergencies and are meant to let you stay warm enough long enough to be saved. but also work nicely as a easy way to jump into the water with all you’re clothes on in under a minute. so, we had 4 volunteers, the birthday girl amongst them. here they are floating about. pretty hilarious, if you ask me.

we tentatively calculated that this was the most people that had ever been on the boat.

Wow, still with me? that was a lot of pictures to post! it took me a few days to actually process them too, but I’ve had a lot of interest in seeing them, so i SPED up my usual processing time.

We had such a great time on the boat. what a lovely party, group of people, and photo subjects. :) one of the best parties that I’ve ever had on a boat. 😉
