the internet here

i would rate internet access as one of those basic human needs.  sure, its nice to disconnect, and not have to be checking your phone or email every 5 min, but when you need to use the internet, you want it to be fast.

i think i got extremely spoiled in vancouver.  we had 100Mbps down, and about 5 up.  this was fantastic, as you never feel like your waiting for a webpage to load, and i was even able to backup roughly 200GB’s of data online over a month or so.

The first few days i got here i was trying to fix my blog, and well, that requires a lot of downloading and uploading of files.  i think i could of gotten old just waiting for all that to happen.  i had to be a little more conscious of what files i was throwing around.  it didnt bother noa in the least bit, and of course, i didnt make a peep about how horrible it was.  HAHAH.  ya right.  i complained bitterly.

so finally a few days ago noa called and asked how much it was to upgrade the internet.  apparently we had 5 Mbps down, and we were able to TRIPEL that to 15.  what a deal.  she asked them to go ahead, and an hour later we rebooted the ADSL model and now im not wasting my life away waiting for webpages to load.  some webpages at least.   yay for first world problems.

The total cost for that upgrade?  20 sheckels a month.

best 5 dollars ive ever spent.

on working out

Since arriving in israel, i don’t really have a lot…  to do.  i have things to do, ive been updaing the blog, working on permanent residence, meeting with friends and family.  but this leave a lot of room in order to form new habits.

As one of my daily goals here is to appreciate being in a beach town, and at least looking at the water, i have incorporated physical exercise back into my life.  The apartment we are staying in right now is about 10 min from the boardwalk along the beach.  so yesterday at the crack of 9am, Noa and i went on our first run together here.  she kept the pace at 2 min of running, with 1 min of walking, and i tried to keep up.

i actually managed to follow along for most of it, but the last set i was pretty beat. im proud that i actually kept up though as much as i did, after not doing anything for so long.

today was the same routine, but instead we want to some community exercise equipment, and did a workout instead.

my plan is to keep this up at least 5 times a week.  if i can get it into a routine, im way more likely to stick with it once i get busier with life.

Changes around the blog and in my life

Hey everyone.

Thanks for reading and following me.  over the last 6 months, there have been a few changes, both on the blog, and in my life.

Lifewise, this summer we sold our apartment in vancouver, and have moved to israel.  needless to say, the last 6 months have been rather hectic.  but me, noa and ginger are here in Tel Aviv now, and all is well.  well, other than all my adventures im having.

Blogwise, well, due to all the activity in my life, it fell a little to the wayside in the last few months.  Since i have more free time on my hands these days, i decided to make some changes, that started with a better faster webhost.  the website should load a lot faster now.  and my email and rss feeds were acting up, so i fixed all that.

What does this all mean to you?  well, nothing really.  if you used to get emails, you will continue to get them now, but from a company called MailChimp.  you may be reading it in your email now, from them.  if you are interested in signing up for emails to my posts, you can do so at this link here.  Andrew’s Adventures Via Mailchimp emails

If you used to use RSS, i have changed that feed too.  Just point your RSS reader to: http://www.andrewlyon.com/blog/index.php/feed/

Lastly, the biggest change to the blog is that it can now be found at andrewlyon.com/blog.  I am saving the root of the domain name for a photography portfolio, but that is still going to take some time for me to get it ready.  so keep your eyes peeled.

Finally, i already have a lot of observations and adventures after being here for only 4 days, so i hope to keep the fun post coming.

Thanks again for sticking around,

andrew
