My forray into HDR

What is HDR, you ask?

BAM. see examples below.

Im not sure these small images do it justice. follow the pictures thru to see them in a larger size.
Anyways, HDR stands for high dynamic range, and basically, it means you take 3 pictures, and then take the brightest part of each of them and compose it into a new picture. ever have the problem of taking a picture into the sun, and either the sun, or the foreground is out of focus or washed out? this basically is a way to get around it. and it looks stunning, if done right.

im still learning, so these may not be the best examples, but i hope to get better.

my fleet, and flying the funtana and demoiselle is fixed!

Well, it was finally time. over the last few weeks i finally worked up the courage to fly the funtana. well, that and it was finally nice enough weather on the weekend that we could actually go out to fly! so, last weekend, i brought out the entire fleet so far, minus the discus glider.

so, heres what happened. dave flew his heli and plane around some, it was a kinda windy day, so i was seeing if the wind would die down some. well, it did not, so finally, i said, alright. lets do it. full power on takeoff, to get in the air as fast as possible, and boy, she definitely took off fast. i quickly brought her into a large climbing circle, and got as much altitude as i could! wow, she flys like a dream. super responsive, still a little twitchy to my untrained hands, but im getting used to it. its pretty different from flying the slow foam piper cub. i tried a few loops, did those with ease. i brought her in for a landing just fine. no problems so far! about a week later i went for my second flight, and this time tried a few more stunts. i scared myself half to death a few times, but as long as you have altitude, your good! so with a few flights under my belt now, im itching to go fly more.

as for the demoiselle, dave asked on a forum of az flyers, at the chandler bowl, where my dad and i went to go watch over xmas, and they offered a suggestion to my motor cutting out at full power. loose solder joint. well, we found it, fixed it, and boy, the demoiselle is a new airplane. she climbs like a bat out of hell, needs 1 foot to take off, and is a great little park flyer now. super fun to fly too, and im able to climb a lot higher than before! i got a great video of my last flight, i just have to manage to get it online still.

so, thats my airplane news, more to come as i get more stuff online.

Site visit in febuary

So, i was up at site again last week, for the whole week. it was pretty busy, and i ended up mostly training someone, but it was good. had great weather, and it was finally just above freezing.

heres a great picture of what the haul truck tires look like. its always difficult to get a sense of scale when they are on the truck.

this is the wolverine mine, which is our largest mine currently, and the second mine to start production. its pretty wild, a vertical coal seam!
Wolverine Phase 1

heres a picture of the largest shovel we have. its huge compared to brule or willow creek, but on the scale of larger mines, its still pretty small.

and lastly, a picture of brule. this is the new phase i just designed, and they are currently loading the coal
