Another highly recommended trip to us was to visit Taxco. apparently theres nothing else like it. so since the wedding was over, and most people had left, we decided to take a day trip there with jaime via public transport on the second to last day in Mexico City.
we again had a similar experience leaving mexico city, it was super hazy in the city and foggy in the upper mountains, but as soon as we got over them, the sun appeared! On this trip we had taken the metro to the central bus station, and from there we got on one of those nicer coaches for the almost 1.5 hour drive.
heading out of town

As soon as we got there i was blown away by the city. driving in we saw how hilly it was, but i don’t think we really realized it yet.

we took a taxi straight to a silver co-op of sorts. there they had a little mining museum, and they sold the silver worked items from people in town. the whole area used to be a silver mining town, but when the silver veins ran out, they transitioned to silver craftsman, and most of Mexico’s silver craftspeople live and work there.

[flickr id=”11601148644″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
from there we heard about a gondola, so we started walking to find that
[flickr id=”11600823465″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11600825055″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
once found, it took us up the mountain….
[flickr id=”11601041553″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”] [flickr id=”11600827505″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
and up onto a hilltop that was completely owned by a resort, which was totally empty! we were told the best view was from the hotel pool, so we made our way there…
and holy moley, they were not wrong
[flickr id=”11601156744″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
now get this… we had come from mexico city, where it was fairly cold, and we got to this resort, and it was so warm i was wishing i was in shorts, and look what we have before us…
[flickr id=”11600829195″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
completely alone, with this view, and such warm weather. Had i known, i would of stayed there for the next three days, sipping martini’s and sitting by the pool, as thats the only thing this vacation to mexico had not had so far….
anyways, i tool the opportunity to get a picture of noa and jaime
[flickr id=”11601603926″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
and she took a picture of us
[flickr id=”11601604966″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
such an amazing looking resort
[flickr id=”11601605826″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11601606826″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
so from there it was back into the city, and we just wandered around looking for the zocalo
[flickr id=”11601608016″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11601050843″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11601056513″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
then we stumbled across some fresh tortillas being made…we had to try some
[flickr id=”11601616396″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11601059193″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
the streets were amazing
[flickr id=”11600846075″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
and then we found the zocalo
[flickr id=”11601064593″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11601178944″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
then it was lunch time, and of course that means taco’s!
[flickr id=”11601626486″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”] [flickr id=”11601183104″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
so an interesting this in this city was that due to how narrow and steep the streets were, the taxis were exclusivly VW bugs. i tried to take a picture that would signify this, and I think this worked out fairly well…
[flickr id=”11600856845″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]

[flickr id=”11601195954″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11601083543″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
by this point we were fairly tired of walking around, and wanted to start the long journey home sooner, so we got to the bus station about 30 min before the bus before ours was going to leave, but they would not let us get onto the bus, even though we had return tickets. i got really ticked off about this, but i was in no position to argue, as no one spoke english. so instead we decided to use the time to take a taxi to the very top of the hill… which was totally worth it.

[flickr id=”11600873805″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
and as the sun set i got this. i think its my favourite of the bunch
[flickr id=”11601202824″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
from the top of the hill, we then walked back down in order to catch our bus home
[flickr id=”11600878025″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]
[flickr id=”11601094133″ thumbnail=”large” overlay=”false” size=”large” group=”” align=”none”]

it was a long day, but very very much worth it! what an end to our mexico city trip!
Yay! This post makes me so happy, remembering what fun we had (and what tired tootsies)! Your photos definitely do the city more justice than my iPhone photos.
